Despite the number of states that it represents –  over a  quarter  of  the  global  community  –  until  now  Africa  has  not really been associated with the collective search for sustainable solutions to the problems caused by climate disruption. It is paradoxical, but in many ways significant, that COP17 held in Durban•1  in November and December 2011, despite taking place in Africa, resulted in a widely criticised – and rightly so – agreement because of its minimalist and frankly retrogressive character, which above all failed to take into account in any way whatsoever the aspirations of the host continent.   It will be no surprise that in the most northern climate of Copenhagen or Warsaw, things were no different, despite the increasing efforts of the African leaders to make their voices heard and deliver a specific message not only in their own interest – which would be a good thing in itself – but also in the common  interest.
