Are France and the French people conscious of the global aspect of their language and the extent of the Francophone space? In these early years of the 21st century, it seems that the answer is no, to the great astonishment of Francophones outside France, whether they are from Québéc, Morocco, the Congo, Madagascar or New Caledonia. The resulting negative consequences include the loss of major economic opportunities and the devaluation of the French language.
