Minister of Finance and Planning in Cape Verde •1. At 52, Cristina Duarte is the only woman among eight candidates standing in the election to be held in May 2015 for the Presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB), a leading African institution •2. The former Director General of Research and Planning in the Ministry of Rural Development of Cabo Verde (1986-91), she was later an international consultant (1992-93) at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Programme, (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank. Holder of an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management (Arizona, United States), she was a senior executive with the Citibank group in Kenya and Angola (1997-2003), becoming Vice President of Corporate Banking and Financial Markets for this international American bank in Luanda, before her appointment as Cabo Verde’s Minister of Finance and Planning. The Min- ister, whose country is regarded as a model in matters of reform and good governance, explains her ambitions for Africa to African Geopolitics.
