Blaise Compaoré President of the Republic of Burkina Faso. Blaise Compaoré was born February 3, 1951 in Ziniaré village north of Ouagadougou. He is the founder of the Organization for Popular Democracy-Labour Movement (ODP / MT) that merges, February 5, 1996, with twelve other political parties in the new Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP), current ruling party. He was elected President of the Republic in 1991 and reelected in 1998, 2005 and 2010. In 1993, President Compaoré was the head of the delegation of Burkina Faso who participated in the first Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). Blaise Compaore was Chairman of the Authority Liptako-Gourma Authority (ALG) and the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD). The President of Burkina Faso has played a mediating role in the regulation of several regional crises. On 26 July 2006 he was appointed as mediator of the inter-Togolese dialogue, held in Ouagadougou in August 2006 and which resulted in an agreement between the government and opposition parties. He also intervened as a mediator in the Ivorian crisis that pitted the Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo and New Forces leader Guillaume Soro. A peace agreement signed by both parties was signed in Ouagadougou on 4 March 2007.
