Director general of the Fondation Mérieux specialising in the fight against infectious diseases, honorary president of Action contre la faim (ACF), a French NGO founded in 1979 which operates in forty countries throughout the world, Benoît Miribel had previously been director general of the Institut Bioforce Développement for five years, a vocational training and guidance centre for humanitarian workers.

Globally, transmission of the Ebola epidemic  which began at the end of 2013 in the Guinea Forest Region seems to be in decline, with a decreased number of cases and deaths.
